5 tips to de stress before your wedding

You want your wedding to be the most special day of your life, you want everything to be perfect, but all the planning and organising can be very stressful. Dr. Marilyn Glenville, one of the UK’s leading nutritionists and author of The Natural Health Bible for Women, gives us her top tips to de stress before your wedding.

Steady your sugar levels

De stress with Dr MarilynWhen you are stressed try to keep your blood sugar levels and energy levels stable by eating something every three hours. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a snack mid morning and one mid afternoon, with no longer than three hours between. This will stop those roller-coaster highs and cravings for sweet foods. Because your blood sugar isn’t allowed to drop, your body will no longer have to ask you for a quick fix. As the blood sugar steadies, so will the mood swings. As your adrenaline levels reduce you will automatically start to feel happier and calmer inside.

Beauty Sleep

Make sure you get at least 7 and half hours of sleep each night. When you’re fast asleep, the body goes into repair mode and regenerates skin, blood and brain cells, as well as muscles.  You can spend a fortune on anti-ageing skin creams but you need to sleep well to have healthy, glowing skin. If you’re struggling to get to sleep make sure you avoid bright light around the house before bed, and avoid all stimulants in the evening including chocolate, caffeinated soft drinks and caffeinated teas and coffees. You can also try having a warming bath with essential oils or try taking magnesium. This mineral is known as ‘nature’s tranquillizer’ and has a calming relaxing effect on the body in general.

Have a laugh

Having a laugh is one of the best remedies for stress – it triggers healthy changes in our body. Many studies show that laughter boosts our energy, decreases stress hormones, improves immunity and diminishes pain. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the natural feel-good chemicals that make us happier and relaxed.

Get your priorities right
