The 2016 Winter Wedding Guide:

Best Value Destinations

Brides and grooms looking to escape the typical British weather on their big day could bag a bargain by choosing a wedding venue abroad, new research has revealed.  With the rising cost of weddings in the UK and no guarantee of sunshine on the big day, it is no surprise that more brides are choosing to tie the knot overseas.

The research, carried out by The Money Shop, looked into a range of wedding packages, flights and the cost of a honeymoon at locations across the world, including Australia, Canada, Mexico and Fiji.

Although the longer haul flights were on the higher price range compared to locations closer to home, the cost of a wedding package when you get there proved to be better value.

A wedding package in Thailand is perfect for brides on a budget; not only is the wedding package the cheapest on our list (£1,078), a ten-day honeymoon is very reasonably priced at just 7500 THB, which is equivalent to around just £162.58. It’s reasonably priced for wedding guests too - a three course meal will cost a couple just 1,000 THB which works out at just £22.00.

For couple who dreams of a real winter wedding, Canada is the perfect getaway. Although the costs of hosting a wedding are more on par with the cost of a British wedding, a four star hotel for 10 days will cost just £1,560, compared to £1,900 for the average ten-day stay at a four star hotel in London.

Morocco may not be a likely candidate for a wedding destination, but the stunning views and warm weather will make the perfect backdrop for those who dream of blue skies on the big day.

Closer to home, Venice is renowned as one of the most romantic destinations in Europe. The short haul flights were among the cheapest and a bottle of wine was priced cheaper than the rest of the European destinations.

Top 5 locations with the best value wedding packages:

Koh Samui, Thailand - £1,078

Sydney, Australia - £1,700

Cancun, Mexico - £1,900

Venice, Italy - £2,460

Santorini, Greece - £2,500

The packages include a dedicated wedding planner to organise the special day, a three course wedding meal, table decorations and seating and tables based on 50 guests on the day.

Caroline Walton Chief Customer Insight Officer at The Money Shop, said: “A wedding is the most important day of a couple’s life so we created the guide to show that there are so many more options than getting hitched in the UK.

“Holding your big day abroad can potentially cut down costs and allow you combine your dream honeymoon into your wedding party. If you are having a wedding abroad we advise monitoring exchange rates as they are constantly changing and get your currency when you see a competitive rate.”
