The Escape at Abbey Hotel, Bath

Brides looking for the perfect combination of tradition and something a little different need not look any further than the newly renovated Escape private event bar and function space at the Abbey Hotel in Bath. Formerly a World War air raid bunker, The Escape offers an intimate, vaulted reception venue in the heart of the beautiful World Heritage and Georgian city of Bath. The unique, underground space – formerly known as the Igloo – has been renovated with stylish new branding and furniture with a 95 pax capacity, fully stocked bar, late license and state of the art sound system.

The Escape is also within confetti throwing distance of all the key wedding hotspots in Bath including the Guildhall, the Roman Baths, St John’s Church and Bath Abbey. Brides and grooms can transform the intimate space into their dream wedding reception venue using the four private booths as relaxation areas for guests whilst others enjoy the fully stocked bar and live band or private DJ that can be hired on request.

The hotel is perfectly situated for bridal photography in Parade Gardens and can be combined with a luxurious overnight stay or weekend for wedding guests.  The The Escape at Abbey Hotel, Bathrefurbishment and rebrand of The Escape come at a time of exciting changes for the Abbey Hotel, which is about to open its new brasserie restaurant Koffmann & Mr. White’s, the first partnership between legendary chefs Pierre Koffmann and Marco Pierre White.

Hens and stags will also enjoy the different experiences available at The Escape including cocktail making or wine tasting for 8-20 people. Or luxurious afternoon tea for up to 40 people with dainty sandwiches and delicious pastries and cake would make for an engagement party with a difference.

Josh Watts, General Manager of the Abbey Hotel says, “It’s not often that you get to mark your special wedding day or celebrate an engagement, stag of hen party in a former World War Bunker like The Escape. Our newly renovated private bar event and function space combines history with a modern feel and provides a real escape from more traditional wedding or bridal celebration”.

Private hire prices start from £300 for the evening or £400 day and evening.   Cocktail making classes are priced at £25 per person and afternoon tea and wine tasting have prices on application.

It’s important to note that given the age and location of the hotel, the venue has limited access for disabled or less able guests. Two private event spaces are also available for private dining or business meetings within the hotel itself. Please also note that the venue does not have a marriage license.
