Historic Tower of London licensed to host weddings for the first time

Historic Royal Palaces has announced that the world-famous Tower of London - one of six venues cared for by the independent charity – is now licensed to host weddings and civil partnerships following sustained demand from both UK and international couples to get married at the popular World Heritage Site.

For the first time in history, couples can say their ‘I dos’ against the timeless backdrop of one of the UK’s most revered landmarks. With 3 different spaces licensed to host ceremonies, weddings of all sizes are welcomed, whether it’s an intimate ceremony for 12 guests in Martin Tower or an all-out showstopper for 150 in the versatile New Armouries. The Tower’s Medieval Palace, a beautiful ancient space offering unbeatable views of London’s riverside cityscape, is perfect for mid-size ceremonies of up to 40 guests. Tower of London to host weddings

Additional spaces that couples can choose for their drinks receptions and wedding breakfast include the oldest and most recognisable tower - the White Tower. The White Tower sits at the centre of the ancient fortress and offers a spectacular view atop the wooden stairs, taking in the Tower complex and the River Thames, from Tower Bridge to the Shard. Couples can also choose to host their reception in the Jewel House, allowing the wedding party to enjoy a private viewing of the world’s most valuable array of crowns, coronation regalia and jewels, making for a truly memorable occasion.

Laura Drake, Commercial Events Manager at the Tower of London, says: “We are delighted that the Tower of London is now licensed to host weddings. We’ve always been aware of the demand from UK couples, and even more so from international couples, looking for an iconic London wedding venue, steeped in heritage and history. Whether couples are looking for a central city venue, or a wedding experience rich in history and character, we have a huge variety of spaces that will ensure the most incredible backdrop and atmosphere.”
