A summer wedding in the North East

THE North East will be firmly on the map this year as Newcastle and Gateshead prepare to host Great Exhibition of the North, making the region one of the most talked about places in the UK to tie the knot in 2018. On-trend brides planning a summer wedding can align their nuptials with the huge cultural celebration, which will be taking place from 22 June to 09 September, and need look no further than the region of the moment to find their perfect wedding venue.

Wedding guests can be a part of their big day whilst visiting the area set to be taking over the news agenda come the warmer months, as the cities showcase a calendar of once in a lifetime events, from engaging exhibits and cultural performances to must-see experiences for all ages.

Ahead of the event, the wedding experts at The Cairn Collection, a distinctive range of 10 signature hotels in landmark cities across the UK are preparing for a busy season, and have shared an insight into three flag-waving wedding venues in the North East.

Three wedding venues perfect for a summer wedding

Summer wedding venueRoyal Station Hotel – Newcastle upon Tyne

Situated in the heart of the vibrant city of Newcastle, this hotel is perfect for engaged couples dreaming of saying “I do” in a venue steeped in history. Dating back to 1858, the property is a Grade One and Grade Two listed Victorian building, boasting beautiful architecture, and home to five function rooms, two luxury bridal suites and a picture-perfect sweeping staircase with an iconic chandelier at its foot.

Loved up couples have a dedicated wedding coordinator assigned to them to help plan their big day. All five of the hotel’s function rooms can accommodate weddings, with some designed to host up to 200 guests who can all spend the night.

Redworth Hall Hotel – County Durham

Redworth wedding venueA short drive from the centre of Newcastle is County Durham, known for its picturesque river and many bridges, stunning cathedral and impressive castle. Brides and grooms to be searching for a venue set in stunning landscaped grounds, 26 acres to be precise, will fall in love with Redworth Hall. The grand country house provides the ultimate backdrop for a fairy-tale wedding, with many function rooms to choose from.

The most popular choice is the Great Hall, which has recently benefitted from an extensive refurbishment. The focal point of this grand room is a floor to ceiling window which the happy couple will say their vows in front of, as well as complementary features such as oak flooring, two stone fireplaces and several chandeliers. The space can host up to 110 ceremony guests and 150 evening guests. The hotel also has 143 bedrooms, and is within easy reach of the A1 for those commuting.

DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle – Newcastle upon Tyne

Double Tree wedding venueAnother option outside of the collection is this contemporary hotel well-suited to high flying couples, a short distance from the centre of Newcastle. Its modern building can accommodate the needs of every bride and groom-to-be, and has the added bonus of being within easy reach of the city’s airport should any guests be travelling in from afar.

Attention to detail is high on the agenda, and couples will be matched with a dedicated wedding planner to help organise their dream day. Varying party sizes can be accommodated in the hotel’s impressive function space, with the option for guests to spend the night in one of the 179 stylish bedrooms.

All three venues have some remaining availability this summer – good news for those with their sights set on a North East wedding during Great Exhibition of the North 2018.
